“Dreamer Lab Award” (DLA) aims to encourage university students to be daring to pursue dreams, bold in exploring new things and active in broadening their horizons. Apart from promoting personal growth, the award scheme encourages university students to address social and international issues and needs with an innovative approach, to care the neglected group in the society and to build a better community with a 'dare to try' and 'never give up' attitude. The DLA awardees can realize their dreams and address the social issues in Hong Kong or overseas through different means (eg. service trip, innovative social enterprises, collaboration with local/overseas NGO, etc).

INDIVIDUAL
The subsidy amount of each selected individual entry ranges from HK$10,000 to HK$15,000.
Submit an individual application for a subsidy of HK$15,000 in maximum. No specific requirement on the theme but it should correspond to the programme objectives and assessment criteria. If applicant has gained subsidy from another source, s/he can still enroll for the DLA programme but the subsidy granted will not exceed the total cost of the proposal submitted.

GROUP
The subsidy amount of each selected group entry ranges from HK$10,000 to HK$50,000.
Submit an application in a group of two or above for a subsidy of HK$50,000 in maximum. No specific requirement on the theme but it should correspond to the programme objectives and assessment criteria. If applicant has gained subsidy from another source, s/he can still enrol for the DLA programme but the subsidy granted will not exceed the total cost of the proposal submitted.

* One application for each applicant. The same person may not apply simultaneously as an individual and a group.

Assessment Criteria

25%: Creativity

Focus on the vision demonstrated in the proposal to respond to various social /international issues and needs with an innovative approach.

25%: Impact

Focus on the insight and practical impact of the proposal, whether it can effectively arouse the public awareness of an issue and provide sustainable assistance to the needy people.

20%: Personal and social touch

Focus on the applicant's knowledge of social resources, whether the application can connect different parties in the community in response to the social / international issue.

15%: Presentation

Focus on the presentation skills of the applicant to introduce the proposal in a lively and appealing ways. The comprehensiveness and feasibility of the proposal will also be taken into consideration.

15%: Online Voting

Focus on the public acceptance of the proposal. The public will vote for a proposal that they support.

Application Details

Eligibility:

Full-time undergraduate students of HKBU aged 18 or above

Project location:

Hong Kong, Mainland China, Taiwan and other overseas countries#

Application and Selection Process:

  1. Submit, either individually or in a group, a complete application and a short video by 5:30 pm on 15 November 2018 (Thur)
  2. For shortlisted entries:
    ○ The video will be uploaded to social media platform for public voting
    ○ The applicant(s) will be invited to attend a selection interview

Requirements for selected applicants:

  1. Before project launching
    ○ Consult the staff of the Office of Student Affairs (SA)
    ○ Submit a finalised proposal
  2. During project execution
    ○ Share your experience on the social media
    ○ Report the progress to the staff of SA regularly
  3. After completion of project
    ○ Submit articles, photos and videos to share your experience
    ○ Complete a report and attend an evaluation session
    ○ Prepare and share your experience in the DLA Showcase

○ 15 November 2018: Closing date for application

○ 19-25 November 2018: Online voting of video for shortlisted applicants

○ End of November 2018: Selection interviews for shortlisted applicants

○ December 2018 - August 2019: Project execution

○ Within 1 month upon project completion: Submit articles, photos and videos to share your experience

○ Within 1 month upon project completion: Complete a report and attend an evaluation session

○ September/October 2019: Prepare and share your experience in the DLA Showcase

Award payment:

- Successful applicants will receive 50% of the award amount in January/February 2019.
- The remaining 50% will be given to the successful applicants upon the completion of the projects.
