Become a Tutee of Cantonese Peer Tutoring Programme

All Mainland freshmen (UG) are welcome to join this programme!  Through interacting with your local Cantonese Peer Tutor and participating in the interactive Cantonese learning activities, you can learn Cantonese in the daily life and adjust to the life in HKBU and Hong Kong more easily.

Phase 1

Content:

1. One Cantonese pinyin lecture delivered by a lecturer of the Language Centre. In view of the pandemic, mixed-mode teaching will be adopted.  Freshmen can attend the lecture online or face-to-face.

2. Four Cantonese lessons delivered by a Cantonese Peer Tutor.  Each session lasts for two hours. Freshmen have to attend the lessons online or face-to-face.

Pinyin lecture: 29 August 2022 (Monday) 2:30-4:30pm

Cantonese Lessons (please select one of the following group):

Group A: 5, 19, 26 September 2022 and 3 October 2022 (Monday) 7:00-9:00pm
Group B: 6, 13, 20, 27 September 2022 (Tuesday) 7:00-9:00pm
Group C: 7, 14, 21, 28 September 2022 (Wednesday) 7:00-9:00pm
Group E: 8, 15, 22, 29 September 2022 (Thursday) 7:00-9:00pm
Group D: 9, 16, 23, 30 September 2022 (Friday) 7:00-9:00pm

Cantonese Lessons:

Please click here and log in to SLES for enrolment on or before 30 August 2022 through this webpage. Successful applicants will receive a notification through email/WeChat on or before 2 September 2022.

Phase 2

Content:
  • Cantonese learning activities in different formats, e.g. lunch gathering, tea gathering, city hunt, etc.
  • ​Peer Tutors teaches Mainland Tutees to use Cantonese in daily life.
Period: October to December 2022 (Round 1); February to April 2023 (Round 2)
Application: Please submit your application to the Language Centre/your Cantonese Peer Tutor in September 2022. (Limited quota, first-come first-served)
