Title of the talk: Walk Alongside: Addressing End-of-Life Challenges for Hong Kong’s LGBT+ Community
Abstract: Imagine being excluded from the discussion when a doctor is making the medical decision for your lifelong partner, excluded from their funeral, or even asked to leave the home you have built together after losing your loved ones. These are the challenges Hong Kong LGBT+ community commonly faces during end-of-life situations, owing to the lack of legal recognition, societal discrimination, and complex family dynamics. This talk will present the initial findings from the first quantitative study, led by us, Alongside, on the end-of-life challenges faced by local LGBT+ community, and discuss how we attempt to address these urgent needs through the provision of comprehensive, one-stop end-of-life service support. We envision an inclusive society where LGBT+ individuals can live well and die well.
