Objectives

  • To help students plan for and keep a portfolio of their non-academic development;
  • To encourage students participate in co-curricular and extra-curricular activities on campus; and
  • To provide certification on students’ non-academic areas for future employment and further studies.

Eligibility

  • Full-time undergraduate and postgraduate students.

Portfolio Contents


Honours and Awards

  • Scholarships or prizes which are given on the basis of merit such as good academic achievement, outstanding participation in social services etc.

Co-curricular Development

  • Fulfillment of requirement of co-curricular programme/training offered by office/department of the university. Programme/training should enhance skill or knowledge advancement, values change, character building, civic responsibilities, service attitude as a result of active student participation or intensive training of not less than six hours. Programme training which is part of the course requirement should not be recorded here.
  • Language Courses by the Language Centre and the Chaplain’s Office are not included.

Contribution to University and Community

  • Officially representing the university in international, local, inter-varsity or university-wide functions. Students involved in the event should be selected/approved by the university for such representation, e.g. university debate team, university football team etc.
  • Organizing or having significant duties in university-wide functions, i.e. duties that demand special abilities, talents, knowledge, training, considerable planning or co-ordination. Examples include member of ad-hoc committees or taskforce, performer being invited by the university for a particular function etc.
  • Official representative in university committees, course/major/school/faculty board meetings etc.
  • Organizing or having leadership role in service programmes in community, e.g. service programmes and related community projects benefiting primary and secondary students, disadvantaged groups or people in need. Programmes should equip the students with pre-service training and professional guidance.

Leadership

  • Member of the executive committee of student organizations: student union, interest clubs and societies.
  • Member of the representative council of the student union.
  • Member of the standing committee of the student union.
  • The responsibility should last for duration of not less than one year.

Talents and Competencies

  • Special talents and special achievements in various areas of competencies. Students should provide official recognition.

Update Your Student Development Portfolio (SDP)

  • Login HKBU BUniPort
  • U-Life -> Student Development Portfolio -> My Portfolio Records
  • Select the suitable category and add a new record.
  • Upload your supporting document (in jpg, pdf or gif format):
    • Certificate of the activities/awards; or
    • ARV Form (All items in the ARV Form have to be verified by relevant department/office)
  • Submit your records via UIS and your data will then be processed by the Career Centre (at least 10 working days) and you will be able to print your unofficial SDP certificate via the system.
  • You can also request for an official certificate via the system. The first official copy is free of charge. Further requests will be subject to a charge.

Students of the self-financed undergraduate top-up programmes (BCW, BER, BHR, BIM, BLC, BMC, BMK, BMS, BPS, BSP & BSR), and 
undergraduate and postgraduate students of the early childhood education programmes (BHE, GEC & HEE)
