BEA Inspiring Student Scholarship 2019/20 (Deadline: 28 February 2020)
The Bank of East Asia, Limited (BEA) has established the BEA Inspiring Student Scholarship to give recognition to deserving undergraduate students with special educational needs (SEN) in the pursuit of excellence in academic and other areas. Only students with "special educational needs" as defined in the Hong Kong Rehabilitation Programme Plan issued by the Labour and Welfare Bureau of the HKSAR Government and confirmed by a medical professional are eligible to apply for the Scholarship. This includes students with attention deficit/hyperactivity disorders, autism, hearing impairment, intellectual disabilities, mental illness, physical disabilities, specific learning difficulties, speech impairment, visceral disability, and visual impairment.
Up to 10 scholarship awards at HK$20,000 each will be offered in the 2019/20 academic year for eligible students in Hong Kong. HKBU will nominate up to 5 students to compete with other local university undergraduate students for the awards.
The Scholarship will be awarded to full-time undergraduate students with one or more SEN studying in any disciplines (UGC-funded programmes only). Applicants should have attained a cumulative GPA of 2.50 or above after semester 1, 2019/20.
Selection would be based on a combination of factors including financial status of the applicant and his/her family, the applicant’s academic performance, and other criteria such as the applicant's character, potential, and extra-curricular achievements, as well as the quality of the individual essay. Essays that are thoughtful, genuine, inspirational, and well-written would be favourably reviewed. Given that the Scholarships are intended to support the local community, preference will be given to students from Hong Kong although non-local students are also eligible to apply.
The application form can be downloaded here.
Completed application form together with copies of all relevant supporting documents (including medical reports, certificates/awards for participation in extra-curricular activities and community services, if any) should be submitted to the Office of Student Affairs, WLB 401 (Rm 401, Level 4, The Wing Lung Bank Building for Business Studies), Shaw Campus, at or before 5:30pm, February 28, 2020 (Friday).
In the event of unforeseeable circumstances, such as extreme weather, that resulted in the sudden closure of SFA Counter on the day of the deadline, SFA will extend the deadline of application to 5:30pm of the following working day.
Partial submissions / late applications will NOT be considered. Also, application form with e-signature, scanned signature, typed signature, or signature not signed by applicant, and scanned or photocopy of application form will NOT be considered.
