For CS Lewis, friendship is not so much about mutual admiration, but about the meeting of rational minds in pursuit, or in discussion, of a common interest. Lewis thought that in good people this common interest would certainly include morality and the good, and in this makes an explicit nod to the Aristotle. However, unlike Aristotle, whose deities or unmoved movers are far removed from human interaction, Lewis was a Christian and as such insisted that part of God’s redemptive work in Christ is to promote friendship between God and man. But what might this look like exactly given Aristotle?
